Ingredients

4 Granny's Turkey Drumsticks
to taste sea salt and ground pepper

Lime Ginger BBQ Sauce

1/2 cup | 125 ml cider vinegar
1/2 cup | 125 ml water
1/4 tsp | 1.25 ml ground cloves
1/2 tsp | 2.5 ml freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp | 2.5 ml dried red chili flakes (or more if more heat is desired)
1/4 cup | 65 ml fresh ginger, chopped
1 tbsp | 15 ml olive oil
1 cup | 250 ml onion, diced
1 tbsp | 15 ml garlic, chopped
1 (28 oz | 796 ml) can whole tomatoes, seeds and juice discarded
1/2 cup | 125 ml dark brown sugar
1 tbsp | 15 ml fancy molasses
1 tsp | 5 ml sea salt
3 tbsp | 45 ml lime juice

Directions

Preheat barbecue to medium-low (325°F | 165°C).
Season drumstick with salt and pepper.
Grill drumsticks over indirect heat for 60-75 minutes.
While drumsticks are cooking, make sauce by simmering vinegar, water, cloves, pepper, chilies, and ginger in a saucepan until reduced by half. Strain the sauce, reserving the liquid.
In a frying pan, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until golden brown. Add tomatoes and cook for an additional two minutes.
Add reserved liquid, brown sugar, molasses, salt and lime juice and simmer for 10 minutes.
Purée in a blender (if sauce is too thick, just add water).
Coat drumsticks in Granny’s Lime Ginger Barbecue Sauce or your favourite barbecue sauce and continue cooking for 10 minutes, turning them and adding more sauce from time to time.
