Seven Napkin Slow Cooker Turkey Sloppy Joes

1 lb | 450 g Granny's Lean Ground Turkey
2 tbsp | 30 ml olive oil
1 cup | 250 ml onion, finely chopped in a food processor
1 cup | 250 ml carrots, finely chopped in a food processor
2 tsp | 10 ml garlic, finely chopped
1 (26 oz | 796 ml) whole tomatoes
3 tbsp | 45 ml tomato paste
3 tbsp | 45 ml brown sugar
1 tbsp | 15 ml balsamic vinegar
1 bay leaf
1 tsp | 5 ml dried oregano
2 tsp | 10 ml dried basil
1/4 tsp | 1.25 ml ground cloves
1 tsp | 5 ml sea salt
1/4 tsp | 1.25 ml ground pepper

Directions

Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet and brown meat well, then transfer it to slow cooker.
Add remaining olive oil, onion, carrot and garlic to skillet and lightly brown.
Remove tomato seeds and pulp from whole tomatoes. Place pulp and seeds in the remaining tomato juice and stain well. Set aside the juice and discard the seeds and pulp. In a food processor, puree the whole tomatoes. Add tomato juice to the processed tomato mixture.
Add tomato paste to the vegetables and simmer for 5 minutes.
Add processed tomato mixture and all remaining ingredients, then transfer to slow cooker.
Place lid on slow cooker then cook on low setting for 6 hours.
Serve with toasted buns.

Cooking Tip: Everything can be sautéed the night before and stored in a container in the fridge. It can be transferred to the slow cooker and started in the morning.
